Ashley Wilburn is a native of Hagerstown in Maryland. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School where she received her secondary education. Ashley Wilburn's practice in law is focused on family law. She has a passion for it. She concentrates her practice on divorce cases, alimony matters, marital property division and child custody battles as well as child support arrangements. She also deals with the post-divorce and enforcement of issues including step-parent adoptions as well as private adoptions for parties as and concerns regarding child welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning issues, such as trusts, wills, probate, and estate administration, as well as commercial contracts, civil litigation cases. Ashley has served as a mediator appointed by the court since 2019 and assists parties in helping to resolve their issues without needing court involvement. In addition to mediation mandated by the court, Ashley also mediates in private cases for individuals who want to stay clear of the litigation and court process.
Ashley completed her undergraduate studies in History and Politics at Loyola University of Maryland. She then pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was ranked among the top 10 students of her class. Ashley was a Note Editor for the Western New England Law Review during her time at law school. This demonstrates her dedication to scholarship and research in the field of law.
Following the completion of her law degree, Ashley embarked on a clerkship journey, working for notable jurists in Connecticut and Maryland. She had the pleasure of being a law assistant for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. In 2014 she returned to her home town of Hagerstown to be a clerk for Honorable M. Kenneth Long at the Washington County Circuit Court, expanding her knowledge of the local legal landscape. In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. As an associate attorney. The primary goal of the firm was to represent the Washington County Department of Social Services in matters involving child welfare. Ashley's tireless efforts played a crucial role in helping children who were victims of in the face of neglect or abuse at hands their parents or caregivers. Her dedication to social justice spanned far beyond her legal profession as she actively served as an officer of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force, which worked hard to raise awareness about human trafficking within the tri-state area.
In 2017 she was a founding partner at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and established her practice in family law, including divorce, custody, child maintenance and guardianships – as well as financial and estate planning - wills, trusts, power of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxies – and mediation.
Ashley established Wilburn Law Office, LLC, 2023, with the commitment to provide a customized approach to each client's needs.
